Spring Training

Today we drove from the Grand Canyon to Peoria in time to see the Mariners play Oakland. We lost, but it doesn't mean anything.

We are meeting the Lee's & Hata's for dinner. (They didn't have any Starbucks (or McDonalds) in Grand Canyon (which is a good thing) so we couldn't get any mugs)

We will be home tomorrow.
This is probably the closest we will ever get to seeing Junior. (He was hitless today.)

Sweet Sixteen at the Maswick Lounge

We got to the Grand Canyon in time to see the Huskies advance to the Sweet Sixteen. We were a little disappointed that they didn't show much on the second half, since the Huskies blew New Mexico away. There were a lot of places without rails. I didn't want to get too close to the edge. They sell a book about about all the deaths in the Grand Canyon. About 6-8 die each year. We took a rim walk today, about 1.3 miles. You can walk down the same trail where the mules go, but it was a bit slippery & it's a mile down in elevation to the bottom. I didn't want to risk falling to the bottom.

This Navajo provided entertainment on the ride back. He wasn't cheesy (and begging for a tip like the phony train robbbers) so I gave him a decent tip.

They say the best time to take pictures is at dawn & dusk.

The Red Rocks of Sedona

We are now at the Grand Canyon Railroad Hotel in Williams. The railroad began here in the early 1900's & was the only way to get to the Grand Canyon, other than stagecoach. It stopped running in 1968 when the automobile became more popular. In 1989 it was refurbished. Tomorrow morning we take off for the Grand Canyon, about 1.5 hours away by train.
Williams is along Route 66.
When we landed in Phoenix it was in the 70's. As you can see it's a lot colder here. We are over 7,000 ft elevation.
We stopped at Sedona on the drive up, which was about 3.5 hours.
The woman who took our picture suggested this pose.
We ate lunch just outside of Phoenix at this place. Tomorrow we'll have some pictures of the Grand Canyon.
